Troubleshooting Complications

These helpful instructions will give you information about caring for yourself after your dental surgical procedure.

There are a number of things the PDC team may ask you to do during this time, which will help you to get better.

Post-Surgery Care Instructions

Managing Swelling (First 3 days)

  • Apply covered ice packs or cold compresses to the surgery site for 30 minutes, alternating with 15 minutes off.
  • Elevate your head with an extra pillow during the first 3 nights to reduce swelling.
  • Take medications as directed
  • Keep on a soft diet till your first review appointment and avoid brushing directly on the surgical site.

Managing Bruising (3 – 7 days)

  • Use ice packs within the first 3 days to minimise bruising.
  • If bruising persists, apply Hirudoid cream to the affected area to aid in reducing bruising, which should subside within 5-7 days.

  • Bite down softly on gauze to maintain pressure on the surgical site.
