DIAGNOdent Decay Detection

Our practice proudly utilises DIAGNOdent, an advanced diagnostic device that employs laser technology to detect hidden or sub-surface cavities with unparalleled accuracy.

Operating at a precise wavelength of 655nm, DIAGNOdent distinguishes between healthy and decayed tooth structures by measuring laser fluorescence. Clean teeth exhibit minimal fluorescence, resulting in low readings on the display screen, while bacteria-infected areas fluoresce and trigger higher scale readings, accompanied by an audible alert for the operator.

The benefits of DIAGNOdent for our patients are substantial:

  • High Accuracy: With a detection rate exceeding 90%, DIAGNOdent identifies lesions that may go undetected by conventional X-rays
  • Conservative: By pinpointing cavities early, DIAGNOdent helps prevent the need for exploratory excavation, preserving healthy tooth structure.
  • Measurable: Precise measurements provided by DIAGNOdent enable our dentists to monitor cavity development over time, facilitating proactive treatment.
  • Safe and Painless: DIAGNOdent utilises light rays instead of X-rays, ensuring a non-invasive and painless diagnostic procedure for our patients.

Unlike traditional examination tools, which may overlook drop-shaped fissures, DIAGNOdent enables early detection of cavities, allowing for timely intervention and optimal oral health outcomes.

At Padstow Dental, we are committed to leveraging state-of-the-art technology like DIAGNOdent to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of dental care.
